The STEP UK English Proficiency Test is a structured 3-hour online assessment designed to measure practical English language ability in alignment with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) levels A1–C1.
The test evaluates four core components: Reading, Listening, Grammar & Vocabulary, and Writing.
All candidates must complete the test in one sitting using a desktop or laptop computer with an operational webcam.
Test Duration
3 hours (single sitting)
Sections
• Reading – 20 questions
• Listening – 20 questions
• Grammar & Vocabulary – 20 questions
• Writing – 1 task
(manually marked)
Technical Requirements
• Desktop or laptop only
• Front-facing webcam (must remain active)
• Working microphone and speakers
• Stable internet connection
• Quiet, private environment
Test Regulations
By booking and taking the test, candidates agree to comply with STEP UK testing regulations and monitoring procedures where applicable.
An official STEP UK Digital Certificate may be added during checkout. Certificates are issued by Spinnaker School of English (UK).
STEP UK is an independent English proficiency assessment. It is not a government-regulated qualification and is not intended for visa or immigration purposes.
