OVERVIEW The STEP-UK Junior English Assessment is a structured online benchmarking evaluation designed for young learners. It measures English proficiency in alignment with age-appropriate CEFR reference levels and supports progressive language development across different stages. The assessment provides a professionally administered evaluation suitable for school benchmarking, internal placement and motivational certification. At higher junior levels, the assessment becomes progressively more academically structured to reflect advancing language ability. IDENTITY VERIFICATION AND MONITORING At the start of the assessment, the candidate’s identity is verified by comparing their live webcam image with the profile photograph provided at the time of booking. During the session, the webcam and microphone must remain operational. Periodic image captures may be taken throughout the test to maintain assessment integrity. Failure to maintain required monitoring conditions may result in the assessment being invalidated. WHAT THE ASSESSMENT MEASURES The assessment evaluates reading comprehension, listening comprehension, grammar and vocabulary control, and written communication. Writing tasks are designed to reflect age and level, becoming more structured and detailed at higher junior stages. Tasks are aligned to CEFR reference levels appropriate for youth progression. CERTIFICATION Upon successful completion, candidates receive a digital certificate confirming their assessed proficiency level at the time of testing. The certificate supports motivational achievement, structured progression and formal benchmarking. PURPOSE AND LIMITATIONS This assessment is intended for youth benchmarking, school support, internal placement and personal language development. It is not approved for immigration, visa or regulated academic admission purposes. DURATION AND FEE Assessment duration typically ranges between 60 and 90 minutes depending on level. The fee is £20 and includes digital certification.

Cancellation Policy
Booking Policy: All bookings must be completed using your correct full name and email address. Your test link will be emailed to you before your scheduled session. You are responsible for ensuring you have a stable internet connection, a working webcam and microphone, and a quiet environment suitable for testing. Profile Photo Requirement: All test takers must upload a clear profile photo to their STEP UK account before the test. This photo is used solely for identification and test security during the session. Bookings without a profile photo may be delayed or refused. Cancellations & Rescheduling: You may cancel or reschedule your booking up to 24 hours before your test time. After this period, changes are not permitted. If you miss your session, arrive too late to begin, or are unable to complete the test due to personal or technical issues (including internet failure, device problems, or unsuitable environment), the booking is considered used, and a new test must be purchased. No-Show Policy: Failure to attend your scheduled test, or joining more than 10 minutes after the start time, will be recorded as a no-show. No refunds or rescheduling are available for missed sessions. Refunds: All test purchases are non-refundable once confirmed. Please ensure you understand all requirements before booking. If STEP UK must cancel or postpone a test for any reason, you will be offered a free reschedule. Test Access & Certificate: You will receive your test link by email before your test. Certificates are issued only to customers who purchase the Test + Certificate Bundle. Certificates are for personal assessment only and are not suitable for immigration or official visa purposes. Waitlist Policy: If a test slot is full, you may join the waitlist. You will be notified automatically if a space becomes available. Places are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and are not guaranteed. Important Notes: By booking a test, you agree to follow all STEP UK test rules, including camera usage and academic honesty. STEP UK reserves the right to update this policy at any time.
